President's Special Project:
Literacy -- Tutoring from the Heart
More than 40 million adults in
the United States are functioning at the lowest literacy level with
43 percent of people with the lowest literacy skills living in
poverty. The GFWC President's Special Project/Literacy --
Tutoring from the Heart will approach the topic with an objective of
education GFWC members and others about adult, family and youth
literacy. By having a goal of training 7500 new literacy
tutors and tutoring 10,000 students during the two-year period, GFWC
hopes to put literacy at the forefront of the nation's challenging
issues.
